20 December 2017

The Astley under 16s have had another great start to their 2017/18 campaign. A win and a draw to start their league fixtures and a forfeit from Heaton Manor saw them go through to the next round of the cup.

On a bitterly cold December afternoon, we headed to John Spence to start our season, after a disappointing cancellation in November from Heaton Manor.

The girls were on the back foot already with injuries, ailments and illness ruling out some of the squad.  Our first game was against John Spence, who seemed intimidating. With an already depleted Astley team, moral was low. However once the whistle blew Astley’s quality was obvious; clear communication, good passing and plenty of shots on goal. Ellie and Beth put their first goals on the score sheet resulting in a 2-0 win! Next up was Thomas More. Despite the same positive play the Astley girls had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

The under 16s represented Astley exceptionally well, including a debut for Grace!
