20 December 2017

The Year 9 boys’ football team celebrated after playing a strong St Cuthbert’s side in Round 2 of the Morgan County Cup in December. An exciting, end to end game saw the boys draw 2-2 at the final whistle and go penalties. Holding their nerve after missing the first two penalties, they won on sudden death. An exceptional performance took the boys through to Round 3.

The Year 10 boys played Gosforth Academy and in the Blake County Cup on 19 December. After a hard fought 3-3 draw they were unlucky to lose on penalties. The boys put up a good fight and have the league games to look forward to in the New Year.

The Year 11 boys played St Benet Biscop in Round 2 of the Diball Cup on 15 December and are waiting to find out their semi-final opponents in the New Year. After losing 2-1 at half time Astley were possibly out of the game. Two minutes into the second half Astley conceded a third goal and it looked as though the game had gone. The Astley boys then raised their game and played some great football; with a change of formation they got back into the game and pulled it back to 3-3.With extra time looming the boys scored with 4 minutes to go and won 4-3. An excellent performance from the boys.
