Congratulations to the Sixth Form Girls for another brilliant rugby league performance on Wednesday 7 February.

The Astley team dominated the Wigan and Leigh College side, a strong side full of local club players and three players who have signed for the new Wigan Warriors Super League Ladies team.

A tough first 15 minutes eventually saw Astley exhaust the Wigan and Leigh side and take a 16 – 0 lead into the second half. During the second half the Wigan heads seemed to drop while Astley continued to play some fine rugby and pull away on the scoreboard.

Final score: Astley Community High School 44 - 0 Wigan and Leigh College.

Mr Carbutt said: "Wigan and Leigh is probably the capital of the rugby league world in the UK and for our girls to turn in such an impressive display again highlights just how far they have come. The Wigan side included three girls who play for the Wigan Ladies Super League team. It was a real pleasure to watch the girls play yesterday, with all players coming up with some big moves during the game. Unfortunately for this year we have had two teams pull out of the college league and issues with transport cost us another two games this season. If this had not been the case, given the quality of this side I am confident in saying our girls would have been crowned National College Champions.”
